Why rooftop solar panels need regular maintenance
A study by the Council on Energy, Environment and Water highlights that many rooftop solar adopters fail to perform regular maintenance, which significantly reduces energy efficiency. The report suggests that unclear maintenance policies and lack of awareness contribute to the degradation of solar panel performance.
Why it matters
Proper maintenance is essential for maximizing the lifespan and return on investment of renewable energy systems, which is critical for sustainable energy adoption.
Why rooftop solar panels need regular maintenance left A poorly maintained solar system slows electricity generation and reduces savings on electricity bills. https://th-i.thgim.com/public/incoming/jkknd8/article71621035.ece/alternates/FREE_1200/2026-04-21T084034Z_1745974874_RC2JTKA7YZR9_RTRMADP_3_INDIA-RENEWABLES-SOLAR.JPG AMIT DAVE FILE PHOTO: Workers clean photovoltaic panels inside a solar power plant in Gujarat, India, July 2, 2015. REUTERS/Amit Dave/File Photo A recent study by the Council on Energy, Environment and Water (CEEW) found that only half of rooftop solar adopters monitor daily system performance and two-thirds clean their panels at least once a month When a solar panel maintenance service provider attended to a client’s place in Chennai, they were surprised to see big branches of a tree blocking the photovoltaic panel so much that it was affecting the efficiency of electricity generated. That’s the least of the obstacles solar panels placed on the terrace face. Layers of dust accumulated over months, bird droppings, and equipment faults can significantly reduce its efficiency.
