‘Why is your girl wearing shorts’: How family outing at Pune fort turned into assault

PUNE: Police in Maharashtra have registered a case against eight members of a right-wing outfit after a man was allegedly assaulted following an argument over a young girl wearing shorts at Sinhagad Fort near Pune.The incident took place on Monday near the samadhi, or memorial, of Tanaji Malusare, the military commander and trusted companion of Chhatrapati Shivaji Maharaj, police said."A group of members of the right-wing outfit objected to the girl wearing shorts on the fort, which led to a heated argument between them and the complainant. The argument escalated and the complainant was allegedly assaulted," inspector Rajesh Ramaghare of the Haveli police station said.According to the police, the complainant and his family were taking photographs when the accused approached them and questioned them about their clothes and photography.
