As previously reported, after long discussions held in a closed session, the government decided not to resort to the extreme measure of closing the only crossing point on the Latvian-Belarusian border, "Paternieki." Moreover, after the meeting, Prime Minister Kulbergs hastened to state that the issue of closing the border point for an indefinite period was not even considered.
Of course, we can only speculate about what was actually discussed today in secret. But the fact remains that the Ministry of the Interior proposed a radical option: complete closure of the border. So why didn’t the government go for it?
