WHO launches first global database on the prevalence of sexually transmitted infections

The World Health Organization has launched an open-access database to track the prevalence of five major sexually transmitted infections. The platform consolidates data from low- and middle-income countries to improve public health monitoring.
Why it matters
Centralizing standardized health data is critical for developing effective global strategies to combat the spread of infectious diseases.
The World Health Organization (WHO) has launched a new global database on the prevalence of sexually transmitted infections (STIs). The open-access database is the first global platform to provide consolidated, standardized and quality-assured STI prevalence data from low- and middle-income countries for the period 2010 onwards. It addresses long-standing challenges in accessing reliable country- and population-specific data related to STIs by bringing together both published and unpublished evidence from diverse sources in one place.
