PUNE: Satyaki Ashok Savarkar, the grandnephew of Hindutva ideologue Vinayak Damodar Savarkar, is the complainant in the criminal defamation case against Congress leader and leader of opposition in the Lok Sabha Rahul Gandhi over remarks Gandhi allegedly made about Savarkar during a speech in London in March 2023.The proceedings in Pune have brought renewed attention to Satyaki's family background, his own association with Savarkar-related activities and his maternal links to the family of Nathuram Godse. During his ongoing cross-examination, Satyaki also told the court that Gopal Godse and Nathuram Godse were active members of the Rashtriya Swayamsevak Sangh (RSS).The latest development in the case is a plea by Satyaki's lawyer seeking Gandhi's voice sample for forensic comparison with an electronic recording on record.
