Who is MLB's next superteam? Why Brewers, Yankees, Cubs could rise if Dodgers decline
The Milwaukee Brewers defeated the Los Angeles Dodgers in the NLCS, ending the Dodgers' recent run of dominance. The article explores the difficulty of maintaining a 'superteam' status in Major League Baseball and considers which franchises might rise to prominence next.
Why it matters
It highlights the volatility of professional sports dynasties and the challenges of sustained success in a high-spending league.
It was the end of a season and maybe the end of a dynasty . The Los Angeles Dodgers were unceremoniously swept in four games in the NLCS by the Milwaukee Brewers . The Brewers erased an early 4-0 deficit to win Game 4 on Thursday ( MIL 6, LAD 4 ). It is Milwaukee's second-ever pennant and first since 1982. The Dodgers, for the first time since 2023, are going home ringless.
"Extremely proud," Dodgers manager Dave Roberts said when asked how he felt about his team's recent run. "It never feels good to lose and not accomplish a goal to win the World Series. It started back in the early part of February. I love this team and what we had to go through. It's one of those things that every night we take the field, people are bringing their best to beat us."
