'What's a woman?': Vision NZ's Karl Mokaraka heckles Chris Hipkins at Ōtara Markets

Labour leader Chris Hipkins has been confronted by political disruptor Karl Mokaraka during a rainy campaign visit to the Ōtara Markets, with Mokaraka repeatedly shouting "what's a woman?" and accusing Hipkins of leaving South Auckland "in a mess".

The confrontation happened at the end of Hipkins' walkabout on Saturday morning, as he was heading to his car in heavy rain.

Footage shows Mokaraka approaching Hipkins holding a large Vision NZ campaign sign. He is standing as the party's candidate for Ōtahuhu for the 2026 general election.

As Mokaraka approached Hipkins, former Labour Speaker Trevor Mallard stepped between the two men.

He can then be heard repeatedly shouting at Hipkins: "What's a woman?"
