A pensioner’s usual morning walk to the shops turned into a “worst nightmare” when she was run over by a concrete truck.
The 73-year-old had been walking from her rest home in Whakatāne, assisted by her walking frame, when she crossed in front of the truck, which was sitting stationary after delivering a load of concrete to a building site.
The driver, Kyle Archer, told police he had “thought it was clear” so pulled out on to Landing Rd.
The woman was knocked over, and the truck “passed over the top of her”, the summary of facts said.
The woman’s walker was pushed onto Landing Rd, and members of the public tooted their horns to get Archer’s attention.
