File photo Article content The Renfrew County and District Health Unit (RCDHU) has confirmed the first detection of West Nile virus in mosquitoes in Renfrew County and District this year after the virus was found in a mosquito sample collected in Arnprior.
The discovery marks the first positive mosquito pool identified in the region in 2026 through the health unit’s annual surveillance program. RCDHU monitors West Nile virus activity each summer using 13 mosquito trapping locations across Renfrew County and District. Mosquitoes collected from the traps are tested weekly throughout the season.
