Several Border Police officers were attacked by civilians during a routine checkpoint stop at the Kalandiya junction, Israel Police announced on Tuesday.The officers had been in a vehicle at the junction gate when a civilian vehicle came from the direction of the West Bank and attempted to pass through and enter Israeli territory.When the Border Police officers attempted to approach the vehicle, several suspects emerged and began assaulting the officers, attempting to take their weapons.The police stated that one of the officers had fired in the air in order to attempt to dissuade the attackers, while another had fired at the lower bodies of two of the attackers after seeing an officer being strangled.Later, the police discovered that the two wounded civilians were security guards.
