West Auckland bus stop assault: Police say drunken man punched teen into road ‘without warning’

A teenage boy was punched by a man so hard he stumbled onto the road in an unprovoked attack at a West Auckland bus stop.

Police have since released an image of three people they’d “like to speak to” after obtaining footage from the assault, while calling any other witnesses to come forward and assist.

According to police, the assault occurred just after 2pm on September 9 at a bus stop near the intersection of Swanson and Mihini Rds, Henderson.

Senior Constable Paul Stanko of Waitematā West Police said the 16-year-old was waiting for a bus when he “observed three adult males sitting inside the bus shelter drinking beer”.

“No words had been exchanged and there had been no interaction between either group when, without warning, one male approached the victim and punched him,” Stanko said.
