Could GLP-1 weight-loss drugs like Ozempic and Wegovy have a bigger impact on our economy in the next few years than artificial intelligence?
I’ve seen a few articles to that effect in the US business media recently.
It’s an interesting idea. I’m sceptical, but I think you can definitely make the case that the ratio of media attention and general discussion on the two technologies is disproportionate.
The economic value of artificial intelligence (AI) – as amazing as chatbot technology already is – hinges on it translating to productivity gains at a rapid pace.
Based on the stratospheric market valuations of tech companies, it needs to deliver really big gains.
I don’t doubt it will, but there is uncertainty about the timing.
