Weather: Thousands without power across Wellington and the South Island
Severe weather conditions caused power outages for thousands of residents across Wellington and New Zealand's South Island. Emergency crews have since restored power to most affected areas as wind warnings expire.

Wild weather has kept emergency services and maintenance crews busy as severe gusts caused havoc around the top of the South Island and the bottom of the North Island today.
Warnings for central and southern parts of New Zealand have since been lifted, though MetService warned that exposed places were still at risk of strong gusts.
Snow was also expected to affect higher roads in the South Island today.
