Why it matters
This highlights a significant sporting achievement and the internal dynamics of a championship-winning national team.
Unai Simon has described Spain’s World Cup glory as "madness" after the Athletic Club goalkeeper played a key role in La Roja’s historic march to the title. The 29-year-old was awarded the Golden Glove after maintaining a near-impenetrable wall at the back, helping his nation reclaim the trophy for the first time in 16 years.
Spain crowned a remarkable World Cup campaign by lifting the trophy after conceding just one goal across eight matches. La Roja successfully became champions after defeating Argentina 1-0 through Ferran Torres' goal in extra time. Simon's outstanding tournament earned him the Golden Glove award after he kept seven clean sheets and played a key role in one of the best defensive displays in World Cup history.
