‘We are introducing certain reforms for quarrying gravel soil in the State’

Tamil Nadu's Minister for Natural Resources announced upcoming reforms for gravel soil quarrying and confirmed a ban on mineral transport to other states. The government also aims to address the grievances of local pottery workers regarding soil access.
Why it matters
The policy changes reflect the state government's attempt to balance resource management with local economic needs and environmental regulation.
Minister for Natural Resources, Minerals and Mines T.K. Prabhu stated that certain reforms for quarrying gravel soil in Tamil Nadu are being introduced in the following week.
Mr. Prabhu held a consultation meeting with officials regarding development projects at the Sivaganga District Collectorate, along with District Collector P. Akash, Superintendent of Police Abhishek Gupta, among others.
Speaking at the meeting, he said: “Officials should forget their positions and authority and listen to the grievances of the people. People desire that honest action be taken on them without any expectations. Ever since assuming office, the government led by Chief Minister C. Joseph Vijay has been doing just that. This is a government for the people. I have confidence that all officials in Sivaganga district will cooperate.”
