Water levels in Krishna raises as Maharashtra and Belagavi dist. receive heavy rains
Heavy rainfall in Maharashtra and Belagavi has led to a significant increase in water inflow into the Krishna River and its associated reservoirs. Several dams, including Almatti and Raja Lakhamagouda, are currently managing increased water levels as a result of the weather conditions.
Why it matters
Effective water management in these reservoirs is critical for regional irrigation, flood control, and power generation in the affected districts.
Due to resumption of heavy rains in parts of Maharashtra and Belagavi district, inflow into the Krishna and its tributaries increased significantly.
On Tuesday evening, discharge from Maharashtra dams crossed 59,866 cusecs. This was around 11,885 cusecs higher than that on Monday.
The inflow into the Lal Bahadur Shastri reservoir on the Krishna at Almatti reached 46,848 cusecs. The average outflow was around 12,500 cusecs. The dam now has 79 tmcft against the full capacity of 123 tmcft of water.
The Hipparagi Barrage has around 2.35 tmcft out of 6 tmcft of water. The average inflow is around 45,750 cusecs and outflow is around 44,900 cusecs.
