WALTA Act will be strengthened to protect valuable trees, says MLC Nagababu

Jana Sena Party MLC Konidela Nagababu participated in a mangrove restoration project in Andhra Pradesh and announced plans to strengthen the WALTA Act to prevent tree destruction. He emphasized the need for better environmental law enforcement to combat pollution and protect biodiversity.
Why it matters
It reflects growing political focus on environmental conservation and the enforcement of land-use laws in India.
Mangrove conservation is essential not only for environmental protection but also for human survival, said A.P. Green Executive Committee chairman and Jana Sena Party (JSP) MLC Konidela Nagababu.
Participating in a mangrove restoration programme at Sangameswaram near Avanigadda on Tuesday (October 13, 2026), Mr. Nagababu planted saplings as part of an initiative to cover 100 hectares with three lakh mangrove trees. MLA Mandali Buddha Prasad was also present.
Speaking at the programme, Mr. Nagababu stated that the Water, Land, and Trees Act (WALTA Act) will be strengthened soon to prevent the destruction of valuable trees. He added that in States such as Keralam and Karnataka, the governments impose restrictions on cutting down trees, while in Andhra Pradesh even when there are enough laws, their implementation is patchy.
