Walang Pasok: Class suspensions for August 17 due to habagat

Local government units in the Philippines have suspended classes for August 17 due to heavy rains caused by the southwest monsoon, known as habagat. Weather authorities are also monitoring two low-pressure areas near the country.

MANILA, Philippines (Update 5, 9:57 p.m.) - Several local government units have announced class suspensions for Monday, August 17, due to expected bad weather brought by the southwest monsoon or habagat.
PAGASA said the southwest monsoon continues to affect the country, bringing rains over parts of Luzon. Two low pressure areas (LPAs) are being monitored outside the Philippine Area of Responsibility.
As of 2 p.m., the state weather bureau said one of the LPAs was unlikely to develop into a tropical depression within the next 24 hours. The other LPA, however, had a medium chance of developing into a tropical depression within the same period.
