Police say the man in his 60s was found on South Terrace, near Douglas Street, shortly after 2am.
The discovery was made just a few hundred metres away from Fremantle's renowned cafe and entertainment strip.
The bustling port city is located about 25 kilometres south-west of the Perth CBD.

The man was taken to Fiona Stanley Hospital but he could not be saved.
