Volkswagen Just Built an EV That Can Go Nearly 900 Miles on a Charge

Volkswagen has unveiled the Mission Efficiency concept, an electric vehicle designed for extreme aerodynamic efficiency. The car achieved a range of nearly 800 miles on a single charge during a test drive from Germany to Austria.
Why it matters
This development demonstrates that significant range improvements in EVs can be achieved through aerodynamic design and weight reduction rather than relying solely on battery technology advancements.
With a drag coefficient of just 0.158, it has the most aerodynamic body of any road-legal car.
It’s also the most efficient EV in its class, consuming just 6.89 kWh/100 km without charging losses.
The VW Mission Efficiency covered 1,278 km (794 miles) on a single charge and still had 164 km (102 miles) of range left at the end of the trip.
Volkswagen has built an electric car that looks like it escaped from a wind-tunnel experiment, and the numbers back up the unusual design. The Mission Efficiency essentially picks up where the one-liter car program left off during the Ferdinand Piëch era, culminating with the ultra-slippery XL1.
