VMRDA fast-tracks second Kailasagiri ghat road

The VMRDA is fast-tracking the construction of a second ghat road to the Kailasagiri hilltop park to alleviate severe traffic congestion. The project aims to improve access for tourists and ensure emergency vehicle movement at the popular destination.
Why it matters
Infrastructure expansion is becoming critical for managing the increasing tourist footfall at major regional landmarks.
A second ghat road to Kailasagiri, may finally take shape, with the Visakhapatnam Metropolitan Region Development Authority (VMRDA) preparing a proposal to ease traffic and parking congestion to the popular destination, which has a high tourist footfall particularly on weekends. Tenders for the proposed 1-kilometre alternative road, estimated to cost ₹3 crores, are expected to be finalised soon. The road will provide an additional route to hilltop and ease pressure on the existing road.
VMRDA In-charge Commissioner Ketan Garg, along with his team, recently inspected the 380-acre hilltop park.
“We can no longer afford to choke our prime tourist destination with a single-lane road. We inspected the site and reviewed the proposal for the second alternative road,” Mr. Garg said.
