VIT to install 65 LED streetlights on Sathuvachari-VIT High Road in Vellore town to prevent accidents

The Vellore Institute of Technology (VIT) is funding the installation of 65 LED streetlights on a new high road in Vellore to improve motorist safety. This initiative follows reports highlighting the lack of lighting on the stretch, which serves as a key route for students and commuters.
Why it matters
It demonstrates a successful example of Corporate Social Responsibility (CSR) addressing local infrastructure and public safety gaps.
Vellore Institute of Technology (VIT) will install at least 65 octagonal LED streetlights on the recently opened ₹90-crore Sathuvachari - VIT High Road, off Chennai - Bengaluru National Highway (NH 48), near the Collectorate in Vellore to prevent accidents.
Officials of the State Highways Department said that of the total 3.2 km of the new stretch, only the new bridge across Palar River has bright LED streetlights with tiled footpaths and a median.
