The Mahatma Gandhi Cancer Hospital & Research Institute in Visakhapatnam has reached a milestone of 500 robotic-assisted cancer surgeries. The institution highlights the benefits of precision oncology and improved patient outcomes in complex surgical cases.
Why it matters
Advancements in robotic surgery improve access to high-quality, minimally invasive medical care in regional healthcare centers.
The Mahatma Gandhi Cancer Hospital & Research Institute (MGCHRI) announced that it has completed over 500 robotic cancer surgeries marking a significant milestone in precision oncology for the region.
Speaking to reporters on Thursday, Dr. Murali Krishna Voonna, Managing Director and Chief Surgical Oncologist, noted that crossing the milestone reflects the institution’s ongoing dedication to patient-centric, advanced medical care.
“Since establishing our dedicated robotic surgery unit, we have combined surgical precision with multidisciplinary expertise so patients can access high-quality cancer care closer to home,” he said.
These included a robotic left adrenalectomy for a patient presenting with severe hypertension due to a pheochromocytoma, and a delicate retroperitoneal lymph node dissection to excise a residual mass following chemotherapy for testicular cancer.
