Despite frequent overcast skies and persistent coastal humidity, Visakhapatnam district continues to face severe moisture stress, emerging as one of the driest regions in Andhra Pradesh this monsoon season of 2026.

Official data retrieved from the Andhra Pradesh Water Resources Information and Management System (APWRIMS) revealed that Visakhapatnam recorded a severe rainfall deficit of 58%, making it one of the most rainfall-deficient regions.

According to data, the district received just 199.69 mm of cumulative rainfall between June 1 and September 11, against the normal expected benchmark of 479.49 mm. The shortfall was most severe in July, when precipitation plummeted by 79% below normal (29.21 mm against 139.78 mm), triggering groundwater depletion and stress on local water reserves.
