Vinayaka idol immersion: Restrictions imposed on movement of vehicles in Puducherry town
Puducherry police have announced traffic restrictions and route diversions for the upcoming Vinayaka idol immersion procession on September 20. Major roads in the town will be closed to vehicles to ensure the safety and smooth movement of the event.
Why it matters
Effective traffic management is essential for public order and safety during large religious processions in densely populated urban areas.
The police have imposed restrictions on the movement of vehicles in Puducherry town to facilitate the smooth conduct of the procession carrying Vinayaka idols for immersion near Beach Road on Sunday (September 20, 2026).
The immersion of idols will take place on the beach front near the Old Court Complex on Sunday evening. Restrictions on the movement of vehicles, mainly along Kamaraj Salai, Anna Salai, S.V. Patel Salai, Ajantha Junction, Mahatma Gandhi Road, and Jawaharlal Nehru Street, will come into place from 2 p.m. on Sunday, the police said.
Idols from various places will first congregate at Saram Avvai Thidal before being taken out in a procession through Kamaraj Salai-Nehru Street-M.G. Road-Ajantha Junction-Old Distillery-Old Court Complex for immersion in the sea.
