Chief Minister C. Joseph Vijay on Thursday (September 3, 2026) announced in the Assembly the formation of two new police districts in Poonamallee and Kilambakkam to ensure the maintenance of law and order in these rapidly developing areas.
According to the announcement, the Avadi Police District will be bifurcated to create the Poonamallee police district, and the Poonamallee police sub-division will be bifurcated to constitute the Thirumazhisai police sub-division. Mr. Vijay said this was being done as the rapid urbanisation and population growth in areas under the Avadi Commissionerate required continuous monitoring of public safety and law and order.
