Vietnam performs first successful penis transplant using brain-dead donor organ
Viet Duc University Hospital in Hanoi has successfully performed Vietnam's first penis transplant using an organ from a brain-dead donor. The procedure aimed to restore both the anatomy and function for a 43-year-old patient who suffered a partial amputation.

Vietnam has successfully performed its first penis transplant using an organ donated by a brain-dead donor, marking a major milestone in the country's reconstructive transplant surgery, Viet Duc University Hospital in Hanoi announced on Wednesday.

The recipient, a 43-year-old man, had previously undergone partial penile amputation at the hospital's Center for Andrology.
Following four years of treatment, his overall health had stabilized.
However, the remaining portion of his penis was too short, leaving him with significant difficulties in sexual activity and causing a substantial impact on both his quality of life and psychological well-being.
Although urinary function had been maintained, the patient wished to undergo transplantation to restore the organ's appearance and function and to help him gradually return to a normal life.
