Velachery residents seek equitable water supply, replacement of ageing pipelines

Residents of Velachery have urged Chennai Metrowater to expedite implementation of the 24x7 water supply scheme, besides replacing ageing water and sewer lines in the locality. They have recently submitted a representation to Chennai Metrowater authorities outlining their demands.
Residents from various parts of Velachery have sought an increase in water supply from the existing 14 million litres of water per day (mld) to nearly 18-20 mld to enable tail-end areas like AGS Colony, Andal Nagar, Buwaneswari Nagar to get sufficient water supply.
V. Sundar, a resident of Velachery, said the water and sewer lines in the area, which were laid three decades ago, have deteriorated and required to be replaced. Many tail-end areas suffered erratic water supply or inadequate supply because of old network.
