Communist Party of India (Marxist) (CPI(M)) State secretary P. Shanmugam on Friday (September 25, 2026) demanded the suspension of police officers allegedly connected with the improper handling of the POCSO Act case against Gem Granites owner R. Veeramani . He also sought a Special Investigation Team (SIT) probe under the supervision of the Madras High Court.
Speaking to reporters in Chennai, Mr. Shanmugam said new details were emerging every day, with reports of more individuals being allegedly involved in the case. He said the issue had come to light only because of the order passed by POCSO Act Cases Special Court Judge Padma Shanmugasundaram, which had compelled the present Tamil Nadu government to take action.
