Van driver killed in road accident; nine children of a private school suffer injuries in Sivaganga district

A school van driver was killed and nine students were injured in a head-on collision with a lorry in Sivaganga district. Police are investigating why the school was operating on a holiday.

In a tragic incident, a van driver identified as Ethiraj of Sivaganga was killed in a road accident, when the vehicle collided head-on against a lorry coming on the opposite direction at Komalipatti near the graphite unit in Sivaganga district on Saturday.
Police said that the van, which was carrying nine students to a private school in Idayamelur, hit against the lorry. In the impact, the driver Ethiraj died on the spot. The children, who were seated in the van, were fortunately rescued with injuries.
An attendant of the school, who was seated in the van, was also injured in the accident. Sivaganga Taluk police registered a case and are investigating. The injured were taken in the emergency ambulance service to the Government Hospital in Sivaganga.
