Retention of the eight-coach MEMU rake that used to be operated between Mettupalayam and Coimbatore (prior to being replaced with 12-coach MEMU rake) would pave way for utilisation of the Chemmozhi Express (No. 16616) rakes for operating a day-time service to Bodinayakanaur via Madurai Junction, a train passenger association in Coimbatore has suggested.

In the event of utilisation of the eight-coach MEMU for operating regular services to Pollachi, the rakes of the Chemmozhi Express that is operated as a passenger service to Pollachi could be utilised to operate a full-fledged express service from Coimbatore to Bodinayanakur via Madurai.

Thereby, the long-time demand for a day-time train from Coimbatore to Madurai would also be fulfilled, general secretary of Podanur Train Users’ Association N. Subramanian said.
