USMNT finishes perfect window with feisty win over Canada

The U.S. Men's National Team concluded a successful international window with a 1-0 victory over Canada, marking four consecutive wins under coach Mauricio Pochettino. Teenager Justin Ellis scored the decisive goal in a physical match.
Why it matters
The team's performance indicates a positive tactical shift and successful integration of youth players under new leadership ahead of the Concacaf Nations League.
The United States capped its September/October international window with a scrappy 1-0 win over Canada in St. Paul, Minnesota, on Tuesday night to make it four wins from four matches. Orlando City teenager Justin Ellis scored the game’s only goal, getting on the end of an Alex Freeman cross and redirecting the ball into the net in the 29th minute. Just 10 minutes earlier, Ellis, who also scored the opening goal in a victory over Peru on Sept. 26, was on the ground after a hard foul. He received treatment on the sideline and was still limping when he returned to the field shortly before he scored. From there on, a physical back-and-forth game played out, with both coaches going deep into their substitutes’ benches and neither able to find another goal. “The effort was massive,” U.S. coach Mauricio Pochettino said.
