US president Donald Trump says it is time for Ukraine to get rid of Zelenskiy

US President Donald Trump has publicly called for a change in Ukrainian leadership, suggesting that President Volodymyr Zelenskiy is responsible for the ongoing war and economic issues like high diesel prices. This comes amid reports of a new US-Russia diesel trade deal and intensified Russian aerial strikes on Ukraine.
Why it matters
The statement marks a significant shift in US foreign policy rhetoric, potentially signaling a move toward abandoning support for the current Ukrainian administration.
US president Donald Trump has said it is time for Ukraine to get a new president, suggesting Volodymyr Zelenskiy has not done enough to end his country’s war with Russia .
Speaking at the White House on Saturday, Trump said: “I suggest they get a new leader who can make a deal″, adding that “for some reason [Zelenskiy] never does”.
He has also sought to blame record US diesel prices on Ukraine rather than the US-led war in Iran , which has elevated world energy prices.
“He wants to make problems for the world. He wants to make problems for our farmers, our ranchers, with diesel fuel,” Trump said, before departing for Tennessee where he was set to rally Republican voters.
