US natural gas futures climbed about 2.6% to an 11-week high on Wednesday on forecasts for seasonally cool weather over the next two weeks that should boost heating demand, a drop in daily output and an increase in flows to liquefied natural gas exports so far this month.
Front-month gas futures for October delivery on the New York Mercantile Exchange rose 7.6 cents, or 2.6%, to $3.041 per million British thermal units, putting the contract on track for its highest close since July 8.
Financial firm LSEG said average gas output in the US Lower 48 states rose to 112.9 billion cubic feet per day (bcfd) so far in September, up from a monthly record high of 112.2 bcfd in August.
