US envoys to visit Russia and Ukraine with new peace plan

US envoys Steve Witkoff and Jared Kushner, who were sent by US President Donald Trump with a new peace plan for the Ukraine war, have arrived in Moscow for talks.

The move marks Washington's latest bid to break a diplomatic stalemate in Europe's deadliest conflict since World War II, which began with Russia's full-scale invasion of Ukraine in 2022.

US outlet Axios reported they would meet Russian President Vladimir Putin in Moscow today, and then Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelensky in Kyiv tomorrow.

Russian presidential envoy Kirill Dmitriev will meet Mr Witkoff and Mr Kushner upon their arrival in Moscow, two people familiar with the upcoming visit said.

Mr Dmitriev, who told Reuters in June that he had remained in contact with the US negotiators during a pause in their visits to Russia, took part in all their previous meetings with Mr Putin.
