URSB Steps Up Copyright Protection Ahead o

The Uganda Registration Services Bureau is enhancing copyright protections for creative professionals ahead of a continental symposium in 2026. The initiative aims to help artists better monetize their work and protect intellectual property in the digital age.
Why it matters
Strengthening intellectual property rights is essential for fostering sustainable creative economies in developing nations.
The Uganda Registration Services Bureau (URSB) is stepping up efforts to protect the rights of musicians, performers, producers and other creative professionals, with a focus on stronger copyright enforcement and better ways for creators to earn from their work.
The renewed focus comes as Uganda prepares to host the Continental Copyright Symposium from October 19 to 21, 2026, at Speke Resort Munyonyo in Kampala. The meeting will bring together regional and international stakeholders to discuss how copyright and neighbouring rights can promote creativity, protect intellectual property and contribute to Africa's economic development.
Speaking at a press briefing at the Uganda Media Centre on October 14, 2026, URSB officials said the symposium would run under the theme "Empowering Creativity: Harnessing IP for Sustainable Development in Africa."
