Upper Bukit Timah Canal upgrade completed, boosting flood resilience with 30% more capacity

Singapore's national water agency, PUB, has completed a 2.3km upgrade of the Upper Bukit Timah Canal. The project increases drainage capacity by 30% to improve flood resilience in the area.
Why it matters
This infrastructure project is critical for mitigating flash flood risks in a low-lying, flood-prone urban catchment area affected by climate change.
PUB will also study longer-term flood mitigation measures for the wider Bukit Timah catchment, including underground detention structures to temporarily store excess stormwater.
