Upalokayukta visits taluk hospital in Belagavi district, flags several issues

Upalokayukta B. Veerappa paid a surprise visit to the Taluk Hospital and flagged various issues, at Chikkodi in Belagavi district on Thursday.

He visited various sections, including the blood bank and the medicine storage unit. Mr. Veerappa noted that the hospital was in a state of disarray. He interacted with patients to gather information about the facilities and services.

He expressed dissatisfaction that the hospital was not being maintained properly despite the government providing grants for cleanliness and upkeep.

The upalokayukta directed officials to take immediate action to ensure cleanliness and proper maintenance.

He expressed concern upon noticing that not all prescribed medicines and tablets were being provided to patients and that expired medicines were being dispensed. He directed doctors and the Health Department officials to provide separate medicine distribution counters for men, women, and persons with disabilities at the hospital’s pharmacy.
