University Teachers’ Association (Contract) seek regularisation, implementation of UGC pay scale

Contract assistant professors in Telangana are demanding the regularization of their positions and the implementation of UGC pay scales. The association claims the government has failed to honor previous assurances regarding job security and salary parity.
Why it matters
This reflects broader issues regarding the treatment of contract labor in public institutions and the struggle for equitable pay in the education sector.
The University Teachers’ Association (Contract), representing contract assistant professors working in 12 public universities across the State, has urged Chief Minister A. Revanth Reddy to regularise eligible faculty members and implement University Grants Commission (UGC) pay scales before filling the remaining university vacancies through recruitment notifications.
Addressing a press conference on Friday, the association members appealed to Mr. Reddy to honour earlier assurances on job security and salary parity. It sought the merger of eligible contract faculty members into regular service in line with the recommendations of the Telangana Education Commission’s Telangana Education Policy 2026.
The association said its members possess qualifications such as NET/SET, Ph.D. degrees and post-doctoral research experience, and have served universities for nearly three decades, performing academic and administrative duties on a par with regular faculty.
