University of Ghana directs students with CGPA below 1.00 to withdraw

The University of Ghana has mandated that undergraduate students with a CGPA below 1.00 must withdraw from their programs. This policy aligns with existing university regulations regarding academic progression.
Why it matters
Academic policy changes significantly impact student populations and institutional standards in higher education.
The University of Ghana has directed undergraduate students whose Cumulative Grade Point Average (CGPA) falls below 1.00 at the end of the 2025/2026 academic year to withdraw from their programmes of study.
In a public notice issued by the Academic Affairs Directorate, the university said the directive was in line with Section 9.26 of the University Regulations for Junior Members (2017), which governs academic progression.
The regulation provides that, to progress to the next level, a student must obtain a CGPA of 1.00 or better and satisfy school or departmental requirements. There is no probation.
