Union Housing and Urban Affairs Secretary Satendra Singh inspected four facilities, including a biogas plant, a tertiary sewage treatment plant, an electric vehicle maintenance workshop and the Kodungaiyur dump yard, operated by the Greater Chennai Corporation (GCC), on Saturday.

The inspections were conducted in the presence of Additional Chief Secretary, Municipal Administration and Water Supply Department, Gagandeep Singh Bedi.

At the biogas plant, operated under a public-private partnership, in Chetpet, Mr. Singh reviewed the processing of wet waste to produce biogas. Chennai generates 6,150 tonnes of waste daily, comprising around 3,200 tonnes of biodegradable waste, 2,950 tonnes of non-biodegradable waste, and road silt. The plant can process 140 tonnes of wet waste a day and currently handles around 120 to 140 tonnes of waste supplied by the GCC.
