Union Minister lauds ASR district’s farm convergence model

Union Agriculture Minister Shivraj Singh Chouhan has praised the ASR district's integrated agricultural model for its success in promoting high-value horticulture among tribal farmers. The model consolidates multiple central schemes to support micro-irrigation, marketing, and value-added processing.
Why it matters
This model serves as a potential blueprint for other districts to improve tribal livelihoods and transition farmers away from illicit crop cultivation.
Union Agriculture and Farmers Welfare Minister Shivraj Singh Chouhan on Monday appreciated the integrated agricultural development model of Alluri Sitarama Raju (ASR) district and suggested that other States examine it and adopt it according to local conditions, the district administration said.
Collector T. Nishanthi presented “The ASR Convergence Model” at a national-level meeting in New Delhi. The model seeks to line up existing schemes under the “Pradhan Mantri Dhan-Dhaanya Krishi Yojana” (PM-DDKY), which carries no separate outlay, behind a single district plan to promote high-value horticulture among tribal farmers. The Collector’s presentation said 36 Central schemes across 11 Ministries and Departments can be brought together.
