Union Minister Arjun Ram Meghwal stated that Sanskrit literature and Indian culture are essential for achieving the government's 'Viksit Bharat' (Developed India) vision. The remarks were made during an academic festival celebrating the role of central Sanskrit universities.
Why it matters
The statement highlights the current administration's focus on integrating traditional knowledge systems into national development and educational policy.
Prime Minister Narendra Modi’s cherished goal of ‘Viksit Bharat’ is possible only with guidance from Sanskrit literature and Indian culture, said Union Minister for Law and Justice Arjun Ram Meghwal.
Speaking after inaugurating ‘Utkarsha Mahotsava 2026’, the combined annual festival of India’s three Central Sanskrit universities, at the National Sanskrit University (NSU) campus here on Wednesday, he said that ancient knowledge available in the Sanskrit texts would continue to guide India towards becoming a developed nation.
He recalled how the Central Sanskrit Universities Act 2020 was passed to create three institutions — the Tirupati-based NSU, Delhi-based Lal Bahadur Shahstri National Sanskrit University (LBSNSU) and Central Sanskrit University (CSU) — all of which were dedicated to Sanskrit studies.
He called upon the intellectuals from across the country to engage their minds in bringing out the best of traditional knowledge for the world to consume.
