An elderly woman was murdered for gold jewellery in the district on Thursday (July 30, 2026).

The deceased, A. Sambooranam (83), a resident of Kamarajar Nagar near Veppadai in Namakkal, was staying with her son Subramani (61). On Thursday morning, Subramani went out for work At that time, two persons who came in a two-wheeler entered the house, murdered her and took her five sovereign gold jewellery. When Subramani came into the house, the duo attacked him but he managed to come out of the house and raise alarm. But, the duo fled from the spot.
