Understudied gut fungus may help repair radiation-damaged DNA and limit intestinal injury

A new study published in the Proceedings of the National Academy of Sciences suggests that specific filamentous fungi in the gut microbiome may help protect against radiation-induced intestinal damage. Researchers found that the fungus Mucor racemosus aids in DNA repair and reduces inflammation in mice.
