UN Dialogue Calls for Collective Action on Information Crisis

UN officials and global stakeholders met in New York to address the growing information crisis, emphasizing the need for integrity in the digital ecosystem. The dialogue focused on regulating AI and emerging technologies to protect public interest against profit-driven information architectures.
Why it matters
As misinformation and AI-driven content proliferate, international cooperation is becoming essential to establish global standards for information integrity and digital safety.
Governments, UN entities, civil society, media, academia and the private sector have called for stronger cooperation and practical action to respond to a rapidly changing global information landscape.
The call came at the high-level Information Integrity Solutions Dialogue at UN Headquarters in New York during the high-level week of the 81st session of the General Assembly.
Co-hosted by Brazil, the UN Secretariat, the UN development Programme ( UNDP ) and the UN Educational, Scientific and Cultural Organization ( UNESCO ), the event brought together practitioners and policymakers from across regions and sectors to examine how the UN Global Principles for Information Integrity and the Global Digital Compact can be put into practice.
Information integrity means ensuring reliable and accurate information is available to all, allowing people to make informed decisions, participate meaningfully in public life, and exercise their right to freedom of expression.
