Bestselling British novelist and former Conservative politician Jeffrey Archer has died at the age of 86. Known for his prolific literary career and high-profile political scandals, he passed away peacefully at his home.

Jeffrey Archer, the bestselling British novelist and former politician, has died aged 86.
Archer sold more than 300 million copies worldwide, with his final novel due to be published this month.
He was also a prominent Conservative politician, and was a senior party official under prime minister Margaret Thatcher in the mid-1980s.

Archer died "suddenly and peacefully at his home between writing sessions" on Monday, his publisher HarperCollins said.
His editor, Kate Elton, called him a "master storyteller and an editor's dream".
