Uganda to host inaugural conference on military operations beyond war

Uganda is set to host a four-day conference in October 2026 focusing on military operations beyond conventional warfare. Defense chiefs from 14 African nations will discuss emerging security threats, including cybersecurity, AI, and climate change.
Why it matters
Regional cooperation on non-traditional security threats is essential for maintaining stability across the African continent.
Chief of Defence Forces Gen Muhoozi Kainerugaba will next week host defence chiefs from 14 African countries, commanders of peace support missions and representatives of continental and regional security organisations at a conference on military operations beyond conventional warfare.
The four-day conference, organised by the Ministry of Defence and Veteran Affairs and the Uganda People’s Defence Forces (UPDF), will take place at Speke Resort Munyonyo from October 5 to 8, 2026.
Acting Director of Defence Public Information Col Chris Magezi confirmed the meeting in a statement issued on Thursday.
The conference will bring together Chiefs of Defence Forces, commanders of peace support missions, representatives of the African Peace and Security Architecture (APSA) and executives of regional political and economic communities.
