KAMPALA — The Uganda Red Cross Society (URCS) has appointed Naphtal Baguma as its new Secretary General and Chief Executive Officer, replacing Robert Kwesiga.
The appointment, announced by the humanitarian organisation’s Central Governing Board on Wednesday, takes effect on March 1, 2027.
URCS said Baguma was selected following a process aimed at identifying a leader with the experience, institutional knowledge and capacity to guide the organisation through its next phase of growth and transformation.
Baguma has more than 20 years of experience across the humanitarian, public and private sectors, including over a decade in senior leadership positions at URCS.
Before his appointment, he served as URCS Director of Supply Chain and Estates Management, overseeing procurement, logistics, fleet operations, warehousing, estates and asset management.
He also worked with government agencies, Parliament, donors and partners in the Red Cross and Red Crescent Movement on planning, resource mobilisation, governance and institutional decision-making.
