Rajya Sabha member K. Laxman on Tuesday asserted that the proposed Uniform Civil Code (UCC) is neither ‘anti-Muslim nor anti-Hindu’ and is not aimed against any religion or community. Instead, he said, its objective is to eliminate discrimination and ensure equal rights for all citizens.
Addressing the issue, the BJP leader said the party remains committed to the principles of equal rights, equal laws and equal respect for every Indian citizen. He noted that Union Home Minister Amit Shah had raised the issue with the broader objective of strengthening the concept of ‘One Nation, Equal Civil Rights’ and ensuring that discrimination is not perpetuated under the guise of personal laws.
